In computing the score, check the various items under DEMERITS which fit the wife, and add the total. Each item counts one point unless specifically weighted as in the parentheses. Then check the items under MERITS which apply; now subtract the DEMERIT score from the MERIT score. The result is the wife’s raw score. Interpret it according to this table:
Raw Scores Interpretation
0-24……………Very Poor
25-41…………..Poor
42-58…………..Average
59-75…………..Superior
76 and up……….Very Superior

DEMERITS
1. Slow in coming to bed — delays till husband is almost asleep.
2. Doesn’t like children. (5)
3. Fails to sew on buttons or darn socks regularly.
4. Wears soiled or ragged dresses and aprons around the house.
5. Wears red nail polish.
6. Often late for appointments. (5)
7. Seams in hose often crooked.

Summer Reading with your Child

July 8th, 2009 | Posted by Taryn | 2 comments

Growing up, my mom immersed me in a world of books. I’ve had many adventures, learned new skills, explored ideas and (I believe) I became a better person because of my love of reading. I can’t thank my mom enough for all the stories she has read and shared with me over the years. Now I share my love of reading with my son Tony (who is 8 ) and even though he doesn’t let me to read to him anymore (“I’m not a little kid, Mom“), he does let me suggest books and he loves to discuss the books he has finished. He has just read The Hobbit with his Dad (for some reason he is not too old to read with him!?) and can’t stop talking about it.

Summer Reading!

If your child is bored this summer and reading sounds BORING

  • Get her a library card!
  • Check to see if your library has a weekly read-out-loud program for younger children
  • Don’t limit him to the children book area. Show him other areas of the library that may have books he’d be interested in.
  • She might enjoy read-along books with audio cds.
  • Sign him up with a local library summer reading club to get him motivated.
  • Help your child organize her own “private” summer book club with a friend or two. Have them over once a week or so to discuss the book and have tea & sandwiches
  • Pick out a book and read it with him or let him read it to a younger sibling.
  • Check out a used bookstore. Let her trade in a few books for a new-to-her book.
  • Let him pick out his favourite or find a new book to movie-adaptation or vice versa. Read the book, watch the movie, discuss differences and similarities. Alice in Wonderland, The Hobbit, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
  • Have her make their own movie, comic or puppet show based on her favourite book.
  • Host a book swap.
  • Find out if an author is coming to your local bookstore or library for a book signing and/or reading.
  • Check out Summer Reading some summer reading lists:  Summer Reading for Kids, Amazon, Chapters, TD Summer Reading Club
  • Read books by local authors: Alberta: Marty Chan; British Columbia: Linda Bailey.
  • Make or download a bookmark or bookplate: FamilyEducation; Chick Chic Bookmark; orange you lucky bookplates
  • Share your summer reading ideas in the comments!

As I put my baby checklist together, I checked out some other lists on the internet to get an idea of what I would need. I forgot how much stuff I would need to gather before baby arrived! Now if we can just find the perfect name for baby.
